Solar and Water Systems in Rambura, Rwanda
Rambura, 2023
Sextant visited Rambura Health Center to improve their electrical and water systems.
SUMMARY
Rambura is village located in a mountainous area in northwest Rwanda. With an elevation of more than 2,400 meters, healthcare staff walk long distances on hilly trails to bring sick people from their homes to the health center - a clinic, lab and maternity. At the health center, inconsistent grid power brings uncertainty to patients, especially mothers delivering within the night. At the Rampura medical clinic there was a great need for more stable energy and improved lighting quality.

Our volunteers installed a 10kW a solar PV system with batteries to support the health center clinic, lab, and maternity buildings. Within the maternity building, new LED light fixtures were installed in place of damaged, missing, or bare bulbs. A new filtration unit was installed to provide filtered water to the wound care room.

In addition to these installations, our volunteers ensured that on-site staff were trained for ongoing maintenance.
